Our Mission

The role of the Commission is to:

  • assist the Archbishop in ensuring that ecumenism is an organic part of the life of the archdiocese
  • provide advice and be a resource for the archdiocese in ecumenical and interfaith matters
  • cooperate with other Christians in prayer for Christian unity
  • initiate, encourage and develop practical ways of building bridges of understanding and co-operation between churches
  • assist in educating and motivating Catholics to take up the challenge to participate actively in working for 'full visible unity'
  • represent the archdiocese in ecumenical and interfaith affairs
  • foster a deep appreciation of the unique bond between Jews and Christans
  • encourage dialogue between people of all religious faith traditions in order that we might understand, be enriched and co-operate together for the good of society
  • work when appropriate with other Commissions in Australia

Mission Statement

Our mission is to foster unity among the Christian churches and to encourage and support growth in understanding and the building of harmonious relations between people of different religious faith traditions.
